How to spot a genuine deal
- Compare unit prices, not shelf prices. GOV.UK explains that unit prices (per kilo, litre or item) let you compare different pack sizes, and that the biggest pack is not always the cheapest per unit. You can usually find the unit price beneath the shelf price or beside the item online.
- Test the “was” price. A discount is only as real as the price it is measured against. Look at what the item cost on earlier visits or in a price-history record, and compare the final price with other shops. GOV.UK said on 9 August 2026 that a consultation will launch this autumn on whether fake “was” prices, invented discounts and misleading recommended retail prices should be banned, because they are hard to tackle under current laws.
- Know the loyalty-price rules. Loyalty prices usually apply only if you scan or swipe each time you shop, or link your card to your online account. Sainsbury's terms say Nectar Prices can't be applied after the event, and “Your Nectar Prices” and Tesco's “Your Clubcard Prices” have to be unlocked each week before you shop. Check the shelf label for both the regular price and the member price.
- Watch for pressure tactics. The CMA has published “red lines” on misleading price-reduction and urgency claims online, such as countdown timers and “selling fast” messages that may not be true.
- Read the small print on free trials. Check what you pay once the trial or introductory price ends, the minimum term and whether it renews automatically (see subscriptions below).

Supermarkets
Loyalty prices, member offers and price-match schemes, as the supermarkets describe them. Most need you to scan a card or app each time you shop.
Tesco Clubcard Prices
Tesco says its “Your Clubcard Prices” are personalised offers for eligible customers, based on what they have bought before.
- New offers arrive in the Tesco app every Wednesday and last for 7 days, to 11:59pm on the following Tuesday.
- You have to unlock them in the app or online each week, then scan your Clubcard at the till or link it to your online account.
- Tesco's own page says Clubcard Prices may not show in your online basket, but you still pay the Clubcard Price and see it on your receipt.
Sainsbury's Nectar Prices
Nectar Prices are lower prices on a selected range of products at Sainsbury's, in store (not Sainsbury's Local) and online, for Nectar members.
- In store, scan or swipe your Nectar card or app at the checkout. Online, add your Nectar card to your Sainsbury's account first.
- “Your Nectar Prices” are up to 10 personalised offers a week. New ones land each Friday and you have to unlock them before you shop.
- Sainsbury's terms say Nectar Prices cannot be applied after the event: if you don't scan or unlock first, you don't get the discount.
Asda Rewards
Asda Rewards is an app. Asda says you earn “Cashpot” money by completing missions, such as shopping in certain categories or hitting spending targets.
- You can convert your Cashpot balance into vouchers to spend in Asda stores and on Asda.com. The money must be spent at Asda and excludes George.com.
- Asda's app listing says you have 6 months from the month you earned it to convert your savings before they expire.
- Asda's app listing also says you build your Cashpot through missions, not on every item you buy.
Morrisons More
Morrisons says More Card members get personalised offers and More Card Prices on selected products when they scan the card in store or online.
- Morrisons says you earn 5 More Points on every product when you scan your card (the page marks this with an asterisk, so read its terms for exclusions).
- When your balance reaches 5,000 points, Morrisons says it gives you a “Fiver” to spend with them.
Lidl Plus
Lidl says the Lidl Plus app gives you weekly exclusive offers and personalised coupons, and you collect points when you scan the app as you shop.
- Points can be spent on rewards in Lidl's Rewards Marketplace.
- Lidl says to check the Coupons section of the app for tailor-made coupons and to check the app each week for exclusive offers.
Co-op membership
Co-op says members get lower prices on everyday essentials and personalised offers every week, which you choose and then redeem by scanning your membership card online or in store.
- Co-op says it costs £1 to join, and you get that £1 back on your first shop in store when you select your personalised offer.
- Members also choose a local cause to support, and Co-op says the cause gets a share of its profits.
Aldi: Price Check and price guarantees
Aldi says it compares its prices with competitors' equivalent products every week. Its Price Check page lists dated “Weekly Price Check” comparisons; when we checked on 26 October 2026, the latest one listed was dated 24 August 2026.
- Aldi says it regularly monitors competitor prices across the market. Its “Save” page lists Price Drops, Super 6 and Specialbuy Steals.
- Time-limited guarantee (Aldi's own terms): it says it will match the lowest UK supermarket price on pumpkins and squash (excluding multi-buys and promotional prices) between 10 September and 1 November 2026, if you can show proof of a lower price for an equivalent size on the date you buy.
“Aldi Price Match” at Tesco and Sainsbury's
“Aldi Price Match” is run by Tesco and by Sainsbury's, not by Aldi. Each matches the price of selected products against comparable Aldi products.
- Tesco says it matches selected Tesco products against comparable Aldi products, checks Aldi prices in GB stores and/or online twice a week, and doesn't match Aldi promotional prices. The products vary by week, and it isn't in Northern Ireland stores. Tesco now says a selected range of everyday products is price matched in Tesco Express too, not the full range.
- Sainsbury's says it covers selected products only, not in Northern Ireland, with prices checked twice weekly. Its terms link to a table of the matched products, which it says is updated regularly.
Too Good To Go
Too Good To Go says its app shows which cafes, restaurants, bakeries and stores near you have good food left over, to buy at half the price or less.
- You reserve and pay in the app, then collect in the pick-up window shown, swiping the app in front of the staff.
- Its terms say you can cancel in the app any time before pick-up ends. A reservation isn't a purchase until you collect.
My Waitrose
Waitrose says all My Waitrose members can enjoy special savings on a variety of products, online and in store, by using their My Waitrose card.
- Personalised offers are tailored to each member, so the number and type of offers can vary and there may be times when none are available. You select them in the My Waitrose hub online or in the app, and they apply when you scan your card at checkout.
- Waitrose also mentions a free hot drink offer and member-only competitions for members.
- “Little Treats”: Waitrose says that each month you spend £50, £100 and £250 earns a Little Treat voucher, up to three a month. You must scan your card in the qualifying shop, and terms apply.
Cinema
Memberships, free schemes and 2-for-1 offers, taken from the cinemas' own pages. Ticket prices vary by cinema, film and time, so check your local cinema's page.
Cineworld Unlimited
Cineworld says its Unlimited monthly membership lets you see unlimited films, and that the cost depends on your local cinema and which membership group it is in. Check your cinema on its page for the price.
- You can pre-book up to 5 films at a time, and Unlimited screenings don't count towards that limit.
- Members get 10% off in-cinema snacks and drinks, rising to 25% after 3 months, or from sign-up if you pay 12 months upfront (Cineworld says this is the premium Unlimited membership).
- All members get 10% off in-cinema Starbucks. Terms apply.

- Vue says: 2 standard tickets, cheapest free, on Tuesdays or Wednesdays at participating cinemas, with the app-only membership ending on 19 July 2027. Extra charges apply for 3D films and premium seating or auditoriums.

About these entries
Each entry is taken from the retailer's own page. We summarise what it says, in our own words, and we don't copy prices from comparison or voucher sites. Time-limited offers disappear from this page after the end date they were published with. If you spot something out of date, the retailer's page is right and ours needs updating. Illustrations of how a scheme works are not a recommendation to join it, and no single scheme suits everyone: what suits you depends on where you shop and what you buy.
